“If you want a child to know the truth, tell him the truth. If you want a child to love the truth, tell him a story.”

-Andrew Peterson (via The Read-Aloud Family, by Sarah Mackenzie)

After reading Sarah Mackenzie’s The Read-Aloud Family, our family decided to open the BeeHive Bookshop because we believe in the power of stories to help us build meaningful connections in our families and in our communities. The characters in the books we read take us along side them on around-the-world adventures, to imaginary worlds of the grandest design, and to great battles where we learn to be heroes for virtue.Stories also show us real emotions and struggles that people face in this big, beautiful, diverse world every day, and give us practice in being brave when we face fear; kind when we face unkindness; honest when we face temptation to do otherwise.

We believe that through books, we can explore our world and learn about ourselves and others in ways that develop empathy and understanding that builds stronger communities.

Books take us to places where we can be anyone or anything. Simply put – reading is fun!
